The Civil Engineering program encompasses the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure, integrating knowledge of calculus, mechanics, hydraulics, and physics. This comprehensive training responds to the demands of a highly sought-after professional field both nationally and internationally.
The graduate of the Civil Engineering program must possess both the knowledge and skills to integrate quickly into professional practice, as well as the ability to pursue further academic studies at the postgraduate level. Civil Engineering graduates will have the following competencies:
The professional practice of Civil Engineers goes beyond technical expertise, integrating analytical skills, responsible decision-making, and a practical perspective oriented toward solving real-world challenges across diverse engineering environments.
UPA Civil Engineering graduates conceive, design, and manage infrastructure projects with an innovative and sustainable vision, integrating scientific and technological rigor, economic and environmental analysis, and the leadership of multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and high-impact projects.
The occupational field of Civil Engineers is broad, ranging from infrastructure design and construction to urban planning and project management.
Civil engineers may work in the public or private sector, in national or multinational companies—whether construction firms, consulting agencies, or even as independent professionals.
This profile meets the demands of the job markets in Germany and Paraguay, according to a market study conducted by the two founding institutions of the Paraguayan-German University: SRH Holding and the Paraguayan Industrial Union.
To achieve this profile, the program lasts eight semesters and follows a competency-based training model: Competency Oriented Research and Education (CORE), developed by SRH Holding.
The main components of the program include:
Academic courses offered in five-week blocks that provide the logical and cognitive foundation needed for academic learning. These subjects include Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, Introduction to Computing, Theory of Knowledge, among others.
Engineering-related courses are offered in five-week blocks to develop technical and human competencies in the fields of Industrial Engineering and Civil Engineering. Most of these courses are taken in Paraguay, while three are completed in Germany as Professional Electives. The courses focus on various thematic areas such as Production, Logistics, Quality Control, Industrial Facilities, Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermotechnics, Vector Mechanics, Innovation Management, Topography and Mapping, Hydrology, Structural Analysis, Concrete, among others.
German language training is offered with a focus on developing language skills and intercultural competencies identified as business communication. These classes are held six hours per week during the first four semesters of the program.
The program offers a four- to six-month internship in Germany to apply the competencies acquired in an international context. This internship is supported through intensive guidance from the International Office of SRH Heidelberg.
In the ninth semester, students complete their degree by defending a thesis in Paraguay. The thesis preparation is supervised by a UPA thesis mentor and includes follow-up workshops and peer exchange sessions throughout the final semester. For both Industrial Engineering and Civil Engineering students, this work leads to the professional title of Engineer in Paraguay.
